Our History

Our parish is unique in the Diocese of Leeds - it is the only one under the patronage of St John the Baptist.

The parish was founded in 1885, and the present church was completed in 1905 - but as John Ray describes in his History of the Parish 1867 - 1985, from which the notes on the succeeding pages are taken, the story of a Catholic Community in the area goes back much further.
